Actualidad Radio Broadcast Journalism Scholarship

Actualidad 1020 AM, Radio News, has become the reference informative signal for Hispanics in southeast Florida. Actualidad 1020 is dedicated to keeping its audience informed about local, national, and world event, and creating their unique brand of news among the Hispanic radio market.

The Actualidad Radio Broadcast Journalism Scholarship was created by Actualidad Radio to support undergraduate students seeking a degree in the Department of Journalism + Media (SCJ).

Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements to be considered:

  • A junior or senior fully admitted into the SCJ pursuing a major in Broadcast media during the award period
  • Must be enrolled full-time (12 credits) during the award period (Fall 2021 – Spring 2022)
  • A minimum FIU cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Submit a 2-page essay (typed double-spaced) about your career goals as a broadcast journalist, reasons for choosing the profession, and where you would like to work in the future
  • Submit a letter of recommendation from a faculty member (SCJ faculty preferred)
    Be a citizen of the United States, a U.S. lawful permanent resident or an international student on an aid eligible visa.

Supplemental Questions
  1. Please submit an essay which discusses the reasons for your chosen profession; and where you see yourself in the future? Must be a minimum of 2 pages, double spaced.
  2. Please submit scans of all transcripts from institutions in which you have taken courses, including FIU (official or unofficial from school's web page).
  3. Please submit a copy of current Panther Degree Audit (PDA for FIU students). All documents should be submitted as PDF.
  4. Please submit a letter of recommendation from a faculty member (SCJ faculty preferred).
  5. All applicants must submit a writing sample (school newspaper story, class paper or equivalent).
