Kevin A. Hill Research Travel Scholarship

The Kevin A. Hill Scholarship was created to benefit Graduate students in the Department of Political Science and International Relations who are enrolled in a course of study with a focus on American Politics. Professor Kevin Hill was a professor of Political Science in FIU for twenty four years with a passion for American Government particularly Southern Politics and Florida politics. Although Professor Hill began his career as an Africanist, he will be remembered for his unique ability to analyze the complexities of American political behavior which inspired many students throughout his career.

Applicants will submit a 1-page research travel proposal that details: (1) the research-related nature and purposes of the travel, (2) a brief overview of the research project, and (3) how the travel will help them improve the quality of their research project. Students must apply through AcademicWorks and notify the Graduate Program Director (via email) that an application has been submitted.

Summer 2024 Awarding.

To be eligible, students must:

• Be in good academic standing in the Political Science Ph.D. program (minimum 3.0 GPA), and
• Plan on taking, or have already taken, the first field American Politics comprehensive exam.
• Students must be US Citizens or Permanent residents with an aid eligible visa

Conditions: Any published works aided by the scholarship should acknowledge the Kevin A. Hill Research Travel Scholarship.

Reporting: Within 9 months of scholarship receipt (or graduation, if sooner), the student will submit a 1-page report to the Graduate Program Director on how the money was spent on research travel.

What counts as research travel? Any travel directly related to developing or improving a research project (data collection, interviews, archives, field work, conference presentations, etc.).

Note on disbursement: A processing fee is charged for scholarship disbursements and the final amount received by the student may be less than requested amount as a result.
