Rakesh, Mei, and Teddy Sarna

The Rakesh, Mei, and Teddy Sarna Model UN Scholarship Endowment was established by Rakesh and Mei Sarna in honor of their beloved golden retriever, Teddy, whose unwavering love and kindness left a lasting impact on all who knew him. Inspired by the dedication and excellence of FIU’s Model UN team, the Sarnas sought to ensure that talented students facing financial barriers would have the resources needed to participate, compete, and succeed on the global stage.

Rakesh Sarna, ’21, is a distinguished global leader with over 38 years of executive experience in hospitality, specializing in operational management, strategic brand development, and stakeholder engagement. He earned his Master of Arts in Global Affairs from FIU’s Steven J. Green School of International and Public Affairs, a degree he proudly pursued alongside his wife, Mei Sarna.

A native of Bangkok, Mei Sarna has over 25 years of experience with luxury hospitality brands such as Four Seasons and Hyatt and serving as a senior advisor in service excellence across multiple countries. A dedicated advocate for education and global citizenship, Mei also holds a Master of Arts in Global Affairs from FIU. Together, the Sarnas have established multiple scholarship programs in the U.S. since 2019, reinforcing their commitment to empowering the next generation through education, leadership, and international engagement.

As proud alumni of the Green School, the Rakesh, Mei, and Teddy Sarna Model UN Scholarship Endowment will ensure that future FIU Model UN students have the opportunity to develop their diplomatic skills, expand their global perspectives, and continue representing FIU on the world stage—without financial limitations. Through their generosity, the Sarnas are investing in the leaders of tomorrow and leaving a lasting legacy of excellence and opportunity at FIU.
