Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholarship

Eligibility Criteria
• Open to matriculating students (with 75 credits or less) who are Florida residents (U.S. citizens or permanent residents of the United States).
• Applicants must submit an original 500-word essay (typed, double-spaced, 12-point font) centered on the theme, “Honoring the Past, Empowering the Future”, demonstrating knowledge of the life, work and ideals of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
• Applicants must be in good academic and conduct standing at Florida International University.

Awards
1. First Place – $2,000 towards tuition at FIU for one academic year ($1,000 per semester) commencing Spring 2019 semester and a book award for $500 ($250 per semester). (Recipient must maintain good academic standing for both the Spring 2019 and Fall 2019 semesters.)

2. Second Place – $1,000 towards the Spring 2019 tuition at FIU and a book award for $500 ($250 per semester).

3. Third Place – $500 towards the Spring 2019 tuition at FIU and a book award for $500 ($250 per semester).

Notification
Winners will be notified by November 12th, 2018 and will receive their awards at the MLK Reception and Awards Ceremony on January 17th at 6:00 PM. Winners will also be required to attend the Annual MLK Commemorative Breakfast on Friday, January 18th, 2019 at 8:00 AM.

Winning essays will be published on the FIU MLK Commemorative Celebration webpage, as well as, record a thank you video expressing gratitude to the donors.
