Humanities in Medicine Scholarship

The Florida International University Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine (HWCOM) Scholarship Program is pleased to offer the Humanities in Medicine Scholarship Award. This scholarship is supported by faculty, staff, family, and friends of HWCOM that have generously donated to the Humanities in Medicine Scholarship Fund to foster and promote students’ commitment to the medical humanities. The purpose of this scholarship award is to support current medical students with interests in the arts and humanities who can demonstrate a clear understanding of the connection between Humanities and Medicine.

• Applicants must be current medical students.
• Applicants must be in good academic and professional standing.
• Applicants must provide a copy of their CV/resume, including extracurricular activities, professional activities, unique skills, recognitions, or employment experience.

Supplemental Questions
  1. Describe in detail your involvement with the arts and humanities as a medical student and how you plan to integrate the humanities and patient care in the future.
  2. Include how scholarship assistance will help you meet your goals.
  3. Demonstrate a clear understanding of the connection between humanities and medicine by submitting either a written work, publication, recording, or visual art piece. Visual pieces must be accompanied by a written explanation so that the scholarship committee understands the message the artist is conveying.
