Generations Ahead Scholarship Faculty/Staff

The Division of Human Resources is pleased to inform you of enhancements to our “Generations Ahead” Scholarship Program – generously sponsored by the Gabor Agency, Inc. Effective this fall, the scholarship program now includes FIU’s benefits-eligible faculty and staff who are also enrolled as full-time students at FIU.

This opportunity is another way to demonstrate appreciation for you, our valued faculty and staff, who support and serve our 56,000 students. As a result of your continued commitment to create positive experiences for our students, the Division of Human Resources is dedicated to creating positive experiences and opportunities for you.

Eligible faculty and staff scholarship recipients must:
A. be a full-time, benefits-eligible employee.
B. be currently enrolled as a degree-seeking, full-time student at FIU, taking a minimum of 12 credits as an undergraduate or 9 credits as a graduate student.
C. have already completed a semester of classes within the last 12 months.
D. have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.50 or better as an undergraduate or 3.0 as a graduate student.
E. be employed for a minimum of one year, at FIU, in a benefits-eligible position.

Generations Ahead Scholarship applicants are expected to:

  • Submit a 500 word essay. “Describe something that has inspired you in the past year to make a difference in your community and how it relates to your academic pursuits."
  • Submit a second 500 word essay depicting why this scholarship is important to you, financially, and how it will help you obtain your degree.
  • Provide two (2) letters of recommendation; one from a faculty member and one from an administrator.

Award Amounts for Spring 2022:
$3,000 for Graduates
$2,000 for Undergraduates

Students who complete a FAFSA have a cap of federal aid they can receive based on their need (Cost of Attendance, COA). Students can be over-awarded with entitlement based awards (i.e. scholarships) but not federal funds. Students can have both scholarships and federal aid but if they are already at their cap (COA) and do not have room for both then the federal aid has to be cancelled or reduced to make room in their aid package for the year and term for scholarship acceptance. Each student package is different based on need and enrollment. Student athletes are also impacted by this because they get athletic aid and cannot go over Cost of Attendance.
